Xmms won't play audio cds

I just installed Mandrake 8.0 and things are going smoothly for the most part but...both Xmms and KDE Player won't play audio cds. I can navigate to /mnt/cdrom with Xmms but it doesn't seem to recognize any files, yet I can play all my MP3 files from my windows partition. The funny thing is CD Player automatically recognizes my audio cds and plays them fine but none of the other players seem to be configured properly or something. What am I doing wrong or what do I need to do to get that working? Thanks.

I'm pretty sure xmms doesn't have built in cd-read support. you can pick up a plugin at the xmms plugins page: http://www.xmms.org/plugins.html

XMMS has support for music CDs. Try logging in to your root account, & play a cd with XMMS. If that works, it's a user permission issue.
