Can anyone tell me if they have successfully used RH7.1 with a Voodoo Banshee card. Does RH7.1 have the appropriate driver for that card. Please help me!! I'm having some major display problems and I really want to get past them and move on to learning more. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Either check Redhat's hardware compatability list or check your version of X against the lists at www.xfree86.org (http://www.xfree86.org) to see which supports the Banshee.

I have RH7.1 and a Diamond Monster Fusion PCI card. I have not had any problems with normal display. I have not been able to determine if the hardware 3d works or not. But normal display has been just fine.

some more info......After talking with a friend he suggested that he had seen some display problems with GNOME as well as other applications locking up. He told me to try KDE because it seemed to be more stable. We then started discussing install procedures and he was trying to steer me toward the graphical install when I told him that I originally tried that and the system had teh same display problems and even locked up on me a few times. He then told me that it shouldn't be happening due to the graphical install mode runs on the lowest system requirements. With this new info, any ideas as to what the problem is? Am I just screwed and need to purchase a new card. It works fine with my WinME partition, just can't get it configured to run linux properly. Thanks for all the help everyone.

This from www.xfree86.org (http://www.xfree86.org)
3Dfx
3.3.6:
Support (including acceleration) for Voodoo Banshee and Voodoo3 cards is provided by the XF86_SVGA server with the tdfx driver.
4.1.0:
Support for Voodoo Graphics and Voodoo 2 chips is available on platforms where Glide is available (Linux and FreeBSD(?)) and is provided by the "glide" driver (requires version 2.x of the Glide library, which is not part of the XFree86 distribution).
Support (including acceleration) for Voodoo Banshee, Voodoo3, Voodoo4, and Voodoo5 is provided by the "tdfx" driver.
Summary:
All hardware supported in 3.3.6 is also supported in 4.1.0.
Hope it helps.

I had my ASUS V3200 AGP card working in 3D under M 8.1 but not since I just installed M 8.2.
Will have to hunt out solution. For M 8.1 it just worked, so I'm not sure why it won't under M 8.2
