ok, we need more info... Wonder why no one has posted a reply to your problem yet? Not enough info to formulate an answer.

What video card, do you have your videocard's drivers properly installed, where you running xmms or somthing that would hog the soundcard? what soundcard... what color socks are you wearing... you know... that sort of thing.

I don't have sharing problems with my soundcard, because it can play multiple different sound sources at the same time. Maybe you just need to close all programs that would use the soundcard. but your the one with the problem, not me, so I wouldn't know whats goin on as much as you do.

post back with somemore info...

cheers :)

Color of socks.... :D

If your socks are mismatched, then that would explain it.

Does sound work for other things? Which Q3A build are you using? Which kernel? What sound card? What sound card drivers (some have multiple drivers available)?

Hello,
SOrry I did not give enough info.
I've been messing around with my box since posting and found out that artsd was the problem. I truned it off and every thing was fine.
now I just run my games in failsafe
no other processes to slow it down :)

Thanks for the help.
BTW my socks where mismatched for a while hhhuuummm. . . now that I think of it I did not think about disabling artsd untill I took them off
