hello,

I am running Red Hat Linux 6.1 When I type in the command startx, I get an error message that says: could not open default font 'fixed'. I have searched past postings on this topic and tried the various suggestions, but so far I'm not getting anything. Here are the postings I looked up http://www.linuxnewbie.org/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=4&t=010103 AND http://www.linuxnewbie.org/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=4&t=010098. Here is what i have tried so far. I have tried going into the /etc/X11/XF86Config file and uncommenting (#) the unix/:-1 line and I get the xwindows grey background but it doesn't go anywhere from there. I have made sure that xfs was running at the time. does anyone know how to solve this problem, and where do the fonts go?
Thanks

some how this message didn't seem to show up on the bulletin board, so here it is again.

Seems you've tried some of the old favorite suggestions. How about trying to comment out the font lines one by one in /etc/XF86Config and see if that get's it going.
