run-time level 5 not working in MDK8 with nvidia drivers

I am getting the same problems a lot of people are getting (in littlewhitedog.com's forums) after installing nvidia drivers in MDK8.0. Everything works when I leave /etc/inittab at run level 3. But when I switch it back to run level 5 and reboot, OpenGL doesn't work anymore. And I was so happy at being able to run tuxracer for the first time, too. =(

Any suggestions?
