Please be kind to an *EXTREME* newbie.
I have a laptop on which I have installed Mandrake 7.2
No real problems except the Distro does not seem to recognize (or acknowledge) the NIC.
I cannot find (after an exhaustive search on the web) anywhere to get a driver for the 3C574-TX card.
Please help!!
Thanks

It is supported, it is just part of the pcmcia stuff, not network. Try setting up your pcmcia stuff first, then do the network.

This may be due to MY laptop, but whenever I install Linux, I have to use the install and MODULES diskette (CD drive not bootable anyways) and the modules disk seems to do the trick of detecting PCMCIA.

You should be able to create the install and modules diskettes by using the rawrite utility in one of the directories on the install CD. Should be in the DOS or similar directory where you will find the install/module image files and instructions on how to create the disks.

After booting with the install disk and the kernel loads, I insert the modules diskette and the install automatically detects that I have inserted the modules disk.

That's how it works on mine...

My distro (eDesktop 2.4) allows to create 'Lisa' or 'Lizard' install disks. Lisa is more text and Lizard is GUI.

Have you tried ifconfig? or ifup? Good chance it is already up and running and you dont know it.

Thanks for your assistance.
The PCMCIA service is running. I can see it in linuxconf under service control.
I can get an error message when I remove the PCMCIA card.
My real question is how to get this particular NIC (which came with this Acer when it originally had Windows™ on it.

Well, if pcmcia is working, then it is a simple matter of insmod-ing the proper module adn then ifconfig-ing it to the proper config for your network. There may even be /etc/pcmcia/network that you could run like

/etc/pcmcia/network start
