My Iomega Zip CDRW worked under Mandrake 7.2 It is /dev/scd0 (ide-scsi emulation: Lilo line: "append "hdd=ide-scsi quiet"")amd is mounted on /zipcd. cdrecord -scanbus returns it properly with scsibus 0,0,0.
When I run gtoaster, however, I get the following message "cdrecord: Input/output error. send opc: scsi sendcmd: retryable error
status: 0x0 (GOOD STATUS)
cdrecord: Resource temporarily unavailable. OPC failed.

Child exited unexpectedly.
CD recording process finished."
Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

I did a Google search for the error message and one of the reasons was due to excessive heat built up in the case and cdrw. The pc was allowed to cool down and all worked fine after. ???

Is this is the first time you try gtoaster after upgrading to Mandrake 8.0?
If so, have you tried to run scanbus from within gtoaster first? Open up the Preferences dialog, and hit the 'Scan Bus' button under the 'CDROM and Recorder Setup' tab.

Hope that helps? :)

Thanks to both MDWats and Choozo. I had checked the scanbus option in gtoaster and that is in order :-)
I am investigating the idea of the cdwriter overheating.I think that may be the case.

I now have it working though I'm not sure how I did it. Certainly the "symlinktree" feature of gtoaster is a nuisance as it forces you to select files individually in order to avoid symlinks. I think I'll start a new toopic on this:-) Thanks for input.
