I get that message. I am very new to linux so I have no clue what to do. I opened harddrake and there is no configuration tab or anything for the modem. I am quite lost, HELP

As we always ask... What type of modem do you have? software or hardware?
Software (winmodems) have problems working in Linux though there are drivers for certain models.
Try www.winmodems.org (http://www.winmodems.org) or www.linmodems.org (http://www.linmodems.org)
There are a couple of NHF's on modems and actually a brand new one posted a week or so ago.
