ok, this is one that i actually haven't seen yet. i've been reading up everywhere i can about how to make the $hitty KDE/Mdk/X/whatever fonts look right. the recommendations i tried included these:

use drakefont to add the mozilla fonts
remove the old .kde directory (leftover from 2.0.1)
change the Xservers file in /usr/X11R6/lib/whatever

ok, the biggest improvement i saw was in letting KDE 2.1.1 make a new ~/.kde folder, then moving over the stuff that i needed. also editing that Xservers file shows me lots of neat tricks from playing around, but didn't really help me any. my biggest trouble was in adding the mozilla fonts. after i did that, all the programs that take their font attributes from Gnome are HUGE. i only have two boxes on Gkrellm, and it takes up almost half the height of the screen. i have found no way to a) uninstall those mozilla fonts (since i don't know which ones it installed) or b) change the Gnome fonts. if someone could just tell me how to do that, i think everything would be roughly back to snuff. oh, and while i'm at it...when i was using my old ~/.kde folder i still had the "laptop" window style...is there any way to get that back? i kind of liked having the close icon on the left corner instead of the right...but the fonts are my big concern (pun intended).

All my font problems went away when I installed WebFonts, maybe it'll help.

Hmm... if the gnome fonts are big... maybe you need to adjust them on the gtk theme you are using. Do you have the gnomecc (command center)? You can use that to change theme and force your own font to override the theme's font. If not, you can try installing a program called gtk theme switch, which is used for the same purpose: change themes (and specify your own font). Hopefully that should help with the gtk issues.. altough gkrellm behaves a little odd on me.. it's the only gtk app I know that refuses to wear the theme I use.
