I'm trying to upgrade from glibc 2.1 to 2.2 and am having considerable difficulty.

After struggling with linuxthreads I've finally gotten past that error and now I can't install it because it's saying that my Kernel Header files are too old or in the wrong place when I run ./configure

I looked around for some Kernel Header Files and the only ones I can find available for download are in RPM format, and I have a very old version of RPM that for some reason won't allow me to install the files due to an error in it's name. Ugh, anyone know where I can find the latest Kernel Header Files? I'm using 2.2.16 on a Slackware 7.1 machine.

I'm actually in the process of updating everything so I can use 2.4, and this is truly a pain in the ***. I'm having problems even updating rpm, but that's a whole other issue entirely.

thanks..

First off if your using slack the easiest way to go about this is to use the Slack pack (.tgz) thats what there there for, go to www.slackware.com (http://www.slackware.com) and go to the packages link and select the D section and download
glibc.tgz. Once you got it downloaded execute this command as root

upgradepkg glibc.tgz glibc

and thats it

Thanks for the tip. I've tried updating several packages using the upgradepkg command, and it seems to be successful.

However when I check to see if it worked and I check the version listed of the new packages it says that they are still the old ones.

don't know what this is about.

thanks..
