I have been tweaking things for about a month now. I haven't made any important files yet because I know I'll just lose them. I figure that about my 50th install I'll have learned enough to start actually creating files and having configs that need saving. http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/wink.gif

In any case I have dedicated 15G of my HD to Linux; I think that's plenty for now. Here is what I have presently. (256M RAM)

/ = 3.5G
/swap = 256M
/home = 3.5G
/usr = The Rest

I am going to include:

/boot = 16M

...in the next install, but I am wondering about the "/" (root) and the "/home"...need they be so big?

I'm mostly concerned with "/" (root). I don't mind "/home" being too large but do I really need that much "/" (root)?

Thanks...

I'd say not.
I'd put it down to more like 1.5GB or 2GB.
