Well, now that I got things going in Mandrake 7.2 (thanks to the help of others) I now have a question:

I found KDE 1.2.? running under XFree 3.3.6 to be a lot faster, smoother, and more stable than XFree 4.0.1/KDE 2.0.1/Latest NVidia Drivers.

Anyone else notice this?

I think I'm going to go back to SuSE 7.0... for a variety of reasons... not just the above one.

All of this is rather fun to mess with, though, in any event. http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif

Anyone know if Suse 7 iso is out and where to get it?

You can get SuSE 7.0 here:

ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/evaluation-7.0/

Although it says 'evaluation' it's the real mccoy... not the one that has to be run from CD.

I run SuSE 7, and I think it's the greatest.
I have to agree with you guys in that drake issue. The new X server doesn't seem to integrate very well with KDE2 under Mandrake, I wonder why. Thus that is not the case in SuSE 7.

I use KDE 2.0 under Red Hat 7.0 and it's very stable here, yes it is a bit slower than 1.2 but then again I just installed the rpm packages without optimizing them.
