I know this is dumb, but where do i start. I just installed linux, and I cant get on the web. I have a SurfBoard cable modem from charter pipeline. how do i make it work so i can use Netscape?

Usually during the install you are asked if you want to set up networking. You say yes, and select DHCP as the connection method. If you are using slackware, just open a console as root and type setup and select configure. Page through the windows until you get to networking, and answer yes, and let it search for a network driver, and select DHCP as the connection method. Should be as similar procedure for other distros. I think in Redhat you can open linuxconf as root and set up networking with DHCP. That should be all you need to do, and you'll be online.
