i recently installed redhat 6.2 on one of my computers, and the book i got the OS with says to type root, then my password, then startx to open gnome. when i do i get the error saying something about ect\X11\X and all these x connection errors. how do i get into gnome? and how do i get the errors to go away. please help

sounds like you didn't config your video card. at the command prompt type Xconfigurator and then answer the hardware related question. hope this helps

also, as an FYI...dont log in as root...its a security risk waiting to happen...once you get x set up you can run it as a user...you should only use the root account in single user mode, and when you have to do sys config.
