I am about to install RH7 on an HP Vectra XU90 MPC, and I want to know how I go about getting Linux to probe beyond the on-board S3 adapter and recognise the Matrox PCI adapter I have in the machine.

I've looked right over the board and thru the BIOS but there seems to be nowhere to disable the on-board video...the result being that Linux will only boot to runlevel 3, as it can't start the X Server due to not being able to find the monitor thru the default card (As it's connected to the Matrox board!)

Any suggestions, or will probing for hardware post-install be the only way to go?

Edit your XF86Config file and add a new Device section for the PCI card and a Screen section that references that Device. Then change the ServerLayout section to use your new Screen.
