alright....I have a SBLive soundcard and ALTEC Lansing 3 piece speakers (two speakers & 1 sub) on my linux box. When I turn the volume up it just distorts the speakers and doesnt seem to use the sub very much, if at all. I checked it in Windows and it sounds real good at high volumes. Would this be a driver problem or what?

Probably the default bass levels for linux are a little off, but just to make sure -- What outputs are you using? Is it just a normal 2 piece speaker + sub set in which it's got one plug going into the regular output? Just open up a mixer and try playing with bass/treble levels.. If it is using a setup such as speakers in front channel, sub in rear then it could be something different, which would also involve messing with a mixer.. http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/wink.gif

Hi:

Definitely a driver problem. I've heard of others having issues with this card. It does work and is supported, but takes some tweaking. I'd do a search here at LNO first.
I've a similar problem with an SB 512 PCI, but haven't even had the time to go get the right driver.

Using SB Live Platinum 5.1 hooked to Dolby Digital reciever and a SB Live Value hooked to Cambridge FPS1500, both sound great. Thing is, for both sound cards the mixer in KDE doesn't have bass/treble control, which isn't so bad for the 5.1 'cause it goes to the reciever and the EQ, but for the FPS1500 it's sorta dumb... oh well..
