Pentium OD 100mhz with 12 mb of RAM install freezes

I am trying to set up a small Linux proxy on my old PC SPECS:
Pentium 486 OverDrive 100mhz
12mb RAM
400 somethin HD IDE
CD-ROM through Sound Card (Works in Linux)
Sound Blaster
Trident 512k Vid Card.

now when I try to boot the install it freezes every time at Starting kswapd 1.5

had the same problem with Caldera.

What distro? Some may have problems with the overdrive processor if their optimized for pentium. Although they seem somewhat alike, there are differences. If you are using a distro like mandrake that is made for pentiums, it's probably puking when it has to do the memory swaps between memory, processor and disk to test itself at startup, but this is all just a guess.
