When I run kde, the resolution is only 640x480. How can I change this? I have done a little mucking around with the etc/x11/xf86config file. I didn't really know what I was doing and nothing changed. I also tried using xf86setup at the command line. I told Linux that I only wanted to run the desktop at 800x600 but when I booted, it was running at 640x480. Any suggestions?

What type of monitor is it? cause I have an old NEC monitor that did the same thing it's max res in windows was 800x600 but in linux i'd tell it 800x600 and the test would work but X would always run in 640x480..

Well, as far as I can make out, I have a KTX monitor. I don't know what model it is but it has a digital display below that tells you the resolution and has various other functions like degaussing. It would be about 5 years old now. It seems like it might have been a bit ahead of its time when it was released. Anyway, in the manual, it says it can go up to 1280x1024. I think the desktop is running at 800x600 and therefore I have what I think they call a virtual desktop.
