I just installed Slackware 7.1, and I can login. However, when I do a "startx", I get an error saying:
"Fatal Server Error
open_framebuffer: failed to open /dev/fd0 (no such device)."
anyone able to help me? How do I install my monitor and my VGA card? I'm using a 233mhz laptop. Thanks.

To configure your graphic cards and monitor:
If you're using XFree86-3.3.x do XF86Setup for the graphical setup.
If you're using XFree86-4.x do xf86cfg for the graphical setup.
If the graphical setup fail, do XF86Config (I'm not sure)
/dev/fd0 is a floppy disk device, I have no idea why it's complainning about that..

hey thanks configure... i got it to work.
How do I actually switch from GNOME to KDE or vice versa? And what is the command to end X-Windows. I know it starts using: "startx".
Thanks.

To end X-windows do Ctrl + Alt + Backspace. But that would equal you doing Ctrl Alt Del on windows, some info will not be save. There should be a button for you to Log out from X-Windows properly on your taskbar. To change from GNOME to anything else, do setup and go to configure. that should let you choose which windows manager to use.
NOTE: configure will allow you to change some other settings aswell, just press cancel if you don't want to make any change to them.
NOTE2: if you want to switch to use KDE2 you must put startkde in your .xinitrc, if you don't have one, simply create one.

try use NViDIA Geforge driver. It might work. That driver should be in XFree86-3.3.6 and later http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
