Klosters 01-14-2001, 07:30 PM I think what you're asking is: SuSE 7.0 creates three partitions when installed the "automatic" way. So, is the boot partition it creates necessary? Oui, c'est mais obligitoire. My Francais is terrible, pardonez moi, si vous plait. Klosters 01-14-2001, 07:54 PM Uh, oh. Think I got it way wrong. Let's see. You installed Win before you installed SuSE. If your C:\Windows partition is 7 Gigs, or smaller(this limit may no longer apply)LILO should go in the Master Boot Record of your C:\ partition. This will then give you the choice of booting into Win or Linux during boot. It's easy to install LILO and fairly easy to choose whether you want to boot Linux OR Windows by default in SuSE's 6.0 thru 6.3. I simply tell SuSE 7.0 to install LILO in the MBR of my C:\ drive. My box will then boot into Linux by default. The good news is that as soon as you type "W" at the LILO prompt, LILO FINALLY gives you time to complete "(W)indows" and hit Enter to boot into Windows. I hope this is somewhat helpful--if someone who speaks French doesn't add to this thread! Craig McPherson 01-14-2001, 07:57 PM I know no French at all. This is Babelfished. A "/boot" partition is usually not required. It is only required if you have a hard drive larger than 8GB, and your root partition (/) doesn't fall completely within the first 8GB. New distributions shouldn't require it at all anymore, because up-to-date bootloaders no longer have the 8GB problem. Craig's answer is the correct one, if anyone wonders. (thought I might add my $0.02 just in case someone doubted the translations were wrong) Jeff justlinux.com
