Hi,
I got this problem with the 'Software Manager' (in Mandrake 8). For the first several times, I managed to install several RPM. But today I tried many times to install RPM from this 'Software Manager', and it keeps giving me an error.

What I did :
1. click on the RPM I want to install or update
2. click install/remove
3. new window comes out with 'Please wait Invoking rpminst'
4. new window comes out with 'Software Installer' 'Error found', 'Some errors where encountered while checking your wishes: Bad, unreadable or not found packages ,xmms-gnome
(I tried to install 'xmms-gnome')
5. press 'cancel' :(

Please help me on this problem.. thanks

Try installing it manually and see if that works. Open a terminal and cd to the directory that contains the rpm you want to install, then as su (or sudo if its configured) type rpm -Uvh name.of.your.rpm. That shouldn't result in any errors as long as its a valid rpm file and there aren't any dependencies that it requires.

I have tried using the command line and it worked.
And I also tried to install other RPM using GnoRPM, it works (the same RPM that can't be installed using 'Software manager').
In fact, now the 'Software manager' can't install any RPM.. it's only because this 'Software manager' has done quite a lot of installation of RPM for me when I just started Mandrake 8 and it's pretty easy that make me to stick with it. But now it made me frustrated.. :(

got any solution to 'fix' the software manager?

You might want to try rebuilding the rpm database and see if that fixes it. I run Mandrake 7.2, but have never used the package manager. I install most stuff from source, and when I do install from rpm I do it from command line. Sorry I cant be of more help.

That is one of the main reasons i switched to a Debian based distro, the drake8.0 Package manager is as buggy as hell, fire off a bug report to Mandrake.com, they would have thousands of them by now.
