I had almost given up on web browsing on my LInux box.. Netscape was horrible, the fonts were terrible -- and I just generally hated it..
On Friday night, I decided to leave RedHat and try Linux-Mandrake 8.0 -- I downloaded the ISO's for the 2 install disks & burned the CD's...
I just installed it today and WOW.. They did a hell of a job on this distro -- since I haven't done a hell of a lot with it yet, I can't be much more specific -- but I have been on the web, and the (built in) Konqueror browser ROCKS. It displays text, graphics and page layout much better; and it loads a hell of a lot faster than Netscrape Aggrivator ever hoped to.
Anyhow -- That's my take (so far) on Mandrake 8.0. If you can, give it a shot.. :)

Yep, I'm with you redeyes- When I first moved to linux, I went with drake8, just because it had the newest xfree86 version, and the older ones that were in Redhat, Suse, etc didn't support my geforce2MX. I'm glad I did.
Konqueror should have been available on Redhat though, it is the file manager/browser for the KDE desktop environment, which would've worked on RH I think.
But even so... I'm very happy with drake so far. :)

do you have any problem with the 'Software manager' that is provided by mandrake 8?

Actually, software manager is a welcome addition! I find it very useful, and have had no problems with it (so far... I've only installed a couple of extras.)
I noticed that it came with built-in cable-modem support and also built in support for my wheel-mouse :-) Made me VERY happy!
I do have to say however, that Mandrake is having a problem with running my sound card and my mouse at the same time. If one is working, the other isn't -- odd, huh? That is the one advantage of RedHat 6.2 -- I never had a problem with my sound card at all. (Unfortunately, it's an ESS Solo-1 built into the motherboard.. Yuck!)
Also -- The Mandrake Control Center is freakin' awesome ;-) Just thought I'd throw that in there too
Overall I am extremely impressed with Mandrake 8... And it only took a couple of hours to download BOTH install discs with my friends cable-modem.. (GOD I can't wait until they have that service in this area!!)
Anyhow -- I do have a VERY newbie question, ('cause I haven't had to do it in so long) -- How do I change it so Linux goes to the graphical login?

well there are 2 ways to enable a graphical login. Edit the inittab from 3 which is multi-user to 5. I can't recall right off hand where this is in the file since I don't have a linux box handy to look at. Another way is to launch either kdm or gdm from the command prompt. Login as root and simply enter kdm or gdm and it will start the graphical login. Lemme know if you need more information.

My inittab has a (commented out) list of the runlevels and just below that the id:runlevel:initdefault right at the start of the file

THis is a little late, but check out the Font De-uglification HOW-TO at http://linuxdocs.org/HOWTOs/mini/FDU/index.html
It will certainly improve the way your Linux distro looks.

Duh... I can't believe I forgot that... Temporary brain-fart.
Anyhow -- I have the soundcard / mouse issue solved, and there's bad news -- In order for my (horrible, rotten) soundcard to work at the same time as my mouse, I had to turn off the "wheel-mouse" and configure it as a Generic 2-button PS/2...
I THINK IT'S ABOUT TIME TO BUY A NEW BLOODY SOUND CARD, eh?? Hehehehe..
Thanks for all the responses !

I recently also just installed mandrake 8. It has no problem with my mouse(Logitech cordless) and soundcard (SB Live!). It even gets better that I dun need to configure the scrolling wheel .. it works nicely .. except ONLY for netscape!! ..
