The patch program? Please help!

I have a file that i need to patch; however, when i type
patch -p1 . .. . .

it says command not found.

Do I need to download this?

Hmmmm .... patch is usually part of the fileutils package? What distro are you running, and have you checked your PATH variable?

'patch' should be located in /usr/bin or /usr/local/bin?
