I know that Linux does not like winmodems and pci sound cards. I happen to have both. I know I cant do much about my soundcard and please dont direct me to the "linmodems page" I am a linux newbie and getting the source codes for modems is way outta my league. I have a Rockwell HCF 56K DataFax modem and a Riptide Audio PCI sound card. Is there any drivers I can download for my modem? Thanks, YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!! :)

You can check out Rockwell's site and see if there are any drivers available for your modem. Also check the installation disks and see whether linux is supported. Many distro pages have hardware support databases as well. Try checking some homepages. http://www.redhat.com/ http://mandrake.com http://suse.com to get you started :)

What is wrong with PCI soundcards? My S/B PCI-128 was detected during the install and works fine.

There are no drivers for the Rockwell HCF 56K DataFax modem for Linux. It's a winmodem, what else can be said? Sorry. As for your soundcard, don't know what driver to use for that. I've had no trouble with my PCI soundcard. Works great in Linux. Do a search at google.com for your particular soundcard and see what comes up in finding a driver for it. Hope this helps.
