linux box is 192.168.0.1 / 255.255.255.000
Win boxes are 192.168.0.xyz /255.255.255.000
The local network works fine via SAMBA and everyone can see everyone else.
Linux is Mandrake 7 kernek 2.4.2
I have made sure that ip forwarding is enabled in /proc/sys/network.
I have made the required changes to rc.local.
I have read the HOWTO's and set up the Win boxes accordingly.
I compiled ipchains support into the 2.4.2 kernel, but I did not compile iptables in.
Should I have done this? Is iptables absolutely required for kernel 2.4.2 or will ipchains still work?
May be irrelevant:
During boot up I get a message /proc/sys/net/ipv4 ip_always_defrag is missing - cannot control ip defragmentation.
If I connect to my ISP using kppp, my kppp stats window displays a "local" and a "remote" address. I can ping the "local" address from any win box but not the remote address.
Ideas please?
thanks
rob
