Need help on Mandrake 8.0

Guyz whenever i try to install RPMs on Mandrake it says it needs some files with *.so extension like libc.so and show me a long list.So what should i do? i am realy a newbie thnx in advance... :rolleyes:

Are you trying to install rpm's that were included on the Mandrake cd's or from downloading?

What type of install did you do? I always do a full install myself so to get all I need and then uninstall those I don't.

Check your cd's for the libraries and install what you need.

Also, you can look for those files on www.rpmfind.net. (http://www.rpmfind.net.) As the previous helper said, if you determine it is in your existing distro CD, you can install that package, or download the correct version, stable version if available, from rpmfind.net.

Do read man rpm carefully, since it is possible to get a mess of dependencies. rpm from a terminal can be much more helpful than the package managers, if you have problems.

i installed glibc_2.2 libraries but i still get same errors..When i click force and install anyway i can use programs form terminal but no gui :(

i got rpms working now but now i need a freeware firewall software and white papers for newbies...any suggswtions?
