I installed Mandrake 8.0 on my primary slave on my WIN98SE system. Installed like a charm on my Epox 8KTA3 motherboard (Athlon/Duron board based on the VIA KT133A chipset). Linux set up a dual-boot situation which I didn't exactly want as I'm a Windows user with some very important Windows apps which help me to put bacon on the table.

After some BBS replies I think the appropriate way to restore Windows non-dual-boot system is to use the command SYS C:. Some people recommended I use FDISK /MBR but after reading an MS article at http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q69/0/13.ASP I don't think that's the answer. It stated that this command could screw up some dual-boot programs.

I'm going to make a Linux boot floppy, do the SYS command, and then use the boot floppy whenever I feel like trying to learn/play with Linux. Basically, I need to figure out a way to get into Linux only if I really want to (i.e. boot floppy). If I lose the floppy I can always reinstall Linux - being a Grand Newbie it's not like I'll be losing anything. :D Anyone have any comments on my plan?

I assume lilo is your bootloader? It seems a handier way to do what you want is to edit lilo.conf so that it boots windows by default. You can set it up so that it automatically boots windows after say 5 seconds, during which time if you wanted to boot linux you could type something like "lin" and hit enter. You can use linuxconf to do this, or whatever Mdk 8 thinks is better. ;)
