I can't get RedHat Linux 7 to run on my computers at home. This isn't a "i don't know how to install linux" thing, as I've used linux for a little over a year now, but when I try to boot from the diskette supplied, it won't boot. I can try and boot directly off of the CD, and it has partial success. It'll start off normal and then just stops. Where you normally get the screen asking you how you want to install redhat (graphical, text, etc.) is where it stops (just before that screen actually).

Anybody had any similar problems, and if so, how did you overcome them? Thanks for any help.

I had the same problem with Mandrake 7.0; it was stalling trying to access the CD drive. I was told about a huge range of problems, most of which had to do with hardware. Actually I solved the problem formatting the drives and getting rid of Win98.
What else do you have on your machine right now?

I had something sort of similar trying to boot from the cdrom on my Pentium 75 machine (raw power!). If your boot floppy doesn't work, make your own.

Boot to DOS, and do the following:
Type: "your cdrom drive letter": (ie d: )
Type: cd \dosutils
Type: rawrite
You will be asked which file you want to copy, you want boot.img . If it says no such file, you may need to type the full path name, to wit, your_cdrom_drive_letter:\images\boot.img
Then follow the prompts.

When it's done, boot from this floppy, and it should work.

Don't think i've left anything out.

I did this from the run command in the start menu, as my dos prompt went a bit crook.
