When trying to burn *some* copy protected CD's, I am able to make an iso image of the CD, however, my burner will freeze when trying to *burn* the image using cdrecord. Is this a limitation of cdrecord, mkiosfs, or my CD burner?

We don't help someone to break the law... but I will give you a hint.. it's not the hardware but the way software are configured. There are some ripping softwares but it's underground... and besides, why would you burn copy protected software???? It's stealing if you must know......

I disagree that making copys of copy protected material is *always* illegal, but I digress........It probably wasn't *proper* to talk about *underground type* material on this general forum, but I am very new at Linux, and wasn't aware of a better alternative place to post the question. Perhaps, email communication wouldn't be out of the question in this case to those willing to help me? I apologize for *bending* the rules........

You should be able to copy "copy-protected" CDs with no problem. It sounds like it's not just because of the CD, it's because something else is weird.

I'm able to copy most CD's with no problem, however, on a few particular ones, the burning process will *freeze*. It will always freeze at the same % of the copy process completed, so I know it's not a freak occurance. It happens everytime, even with dummy copies...

Bull****. You know what fair use laws are?

They're the laws that permit you to copy commercial software (or other material) for backup, archival, or other personal (not to be shared ever) use. These laws let you buy an audio disc once, and make a copy for your car and your office. Your copies are all legal copies, so long as:
A) You still own the original item,
B) You don't loan, or give away copies. And I'm not even so sure about the loaning provision...

BUT, it also depends. What software can't you copy?

Sometimes, I can't either. And then, I make an iso fs from the files on the CD, and that usually works.

Just in case someone else was curious, on those particularly *tough* CD's, I found success doing what *Mastersibin* suggested.......

1- copy the entire CD to your HD manually
2- make the ISO image from the *copy*
3- use cdrecord to burn the cd

Thanks to everyone that helped
