Ok, this one really baffles me and I can't figure out exactly what is going on. Right now I'm using a Pentium 166 with 16 MB RAM and I have Debian GNU / Linux installed.

The problem is I keep getting an error, especially during boot up:
VM: do_try_to_free_pages failed for (some process name)

Anyone have any clue what this means??? I'm guessing it has something to do the with kernel memory paging. The Debian apt system just upgraded somethings and it seems to have aligned the system more closely to System V. It seems the rc start up files were changed.

Hmm... it's either no one really knows what's going on here or they're just ignoring me.
Come on people, don't make me cross post!

Hmmm, I feel your pain, but I do not know what's going on either.
I reckon you're right about it being a kernel memory management issue. Do you have plenty much swap space? (I have often heard it said as a rule of thumb that you need 2.5 times memory, but the fact is, the less memory you have, the more you are going to need!)
Sorry, that's my best effort.
