i installed linux yesterday after careful planning to see if my computer could take it.
The installation was pretty easy. after that, i don't know. I am a newbie so bare (sp) with me. and i come here because i am about to give up on linux (yes, after ONE day) I have mandrake linux 7.2

@home doesn't work for me. I read many articles and they require some things that i don't know. I don't have the name that @home assigned me. The only thing i know about my network is my IP, and i got that from windows so my questions are as follows

-What tutorials works?
-How can i find the variables in the setup? such as the name of my computer that shaw assigned me.
-How can i install an "unknown" nic, of which i have linux drive?

The other one is that Linux doesn't seem to support my sound. when i try to play mp3s with a built in player, it said that it can't connect to the sound server, and to make sure arts(?dunno the exact name) is on.
I checked, it was on. Still doesn't work. The sound card is installed.

Anyway, sorry if this is irritating. I reinstalled using an OLD image file. I lost all my data, and took the whole day to reinstall everything. I also lost my project files in the process. Did backup files, but the burner couldn't recuperate some of them probably because of the njstar chars. So i am tired.
