Hi there....I'm hoping someone will take a little pity and help me out with what seems to be a way too slow 'Net connection...sort of.

I dial up to the 'Net using RH PPP dialer that came with my RedHat 6.2 dist. Then, I start up Netscape 4.72 (also came with the dist.) Netscape can load the first 1 or 2 k of any Web page, and then it stalls. If I wait a few minutes, I'll get an error message that says "A network error has occurred while Netscape was receiving data (Network error: Connection reset by peer). Try connecting again."

I thought it might be a Netscape problem, but my Squid proxy clients are having similar problems (running WinME with IE whatever).

I can't swear that I've got TCP/IP and related stuff set up right, either. It seems to be working on my LAN, 'cause all my clients can communicate, but who knows? Maybe I screwed up something in DNS or somewhere else.

This box is running RedHat 6.2 and a lot of the stuff that came with it - Samba 2.0.6, Squid 2.?, X & Gnome, etc. It has 256 Mb RAM, and yes, the modem is a 56k modem.

Can anyone give me a clue? Thanks in advance,
