I don't want a boot disk that contains my kernel. I want one that can be used to install a new os because my cdrom won't boot from cdr's. How can I go about this? I already have rh6.1 so I do have access to a linux os. Thanks for your help.

check with their website, there should be instructions on how to create a boot disk for their particular distro.

I saw a post some time ago, from a guy who bought
Windows ME and Partition Magic, only to find out
that PM doesn't work with ME
This may help you. Thinking about the above, I
created a DOS boot disk. I then created:
An autoexec.bat file
A Config.sys file

To that disk I then copied the following files:

Fdisk.exe
Format.com
Mouse.ini
Mouse.com
Edit.com (from DRDOS 7)
Mscdex.exe
Vide-cdd.sys

The last two allowed me to recognize and access
my CD-ROM.

The reason for creating a DOS boot disk is for
the following:
You can run PM from DOS--but in text mode.

To a second floppy I copied pqmagict.exe from
my Partitio Magic directory on my hard drive.
This is the text-mode program of PM.

So, in your case, you can repartition a drive with PM
make a partition active with fdisk or PM and then
install a different OS. I think.

I was able to do this on a spare HD that I had without
any problems.

From what I can tell, you're installing a new distro form scratch. I think almost all distros have optional floppy images you can use to boot the install program, you just need to do a little looking in their ftp server...
