First off, I'm brand spankin' new to Linux so please bear with me and reply as if you were trying to teach a child. :)

I have successfully (kinda, sorta, I think) installed Mandrake 7.2. The only big red X and depressed Tux I get is from my SB PCI 512 sound card. I expected that, though. I do not get any type of GUI after booting into Linux. Just a command prompt(the shell?) to login. I believe this may be due to the fact that I need to set up my Voodoo 3. That's my current theory. Please correct me if it is wrong. I have read the NHF and will attempt it when I get home.

My primary concern is getting my DSL running properly. I'm using Telocity and it is external connecting to a nic. Now, I know my nic is actually working since I was able to do a loop back test. The funny thing is I am also able to successfully ping my static IP address that Telocity has assigned me, although I did not manually enter it. I know it is suppose to happen that way, but I can not ping anything else.
(sidenote-nobody every said anything about the -c switch when using ping. learned that the hard way)

Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Try startx

Hopefully that is enough to get you up to X. MDK7.2 should set up a Voodoo3 automatically. For seting up DSl, I would use linuxconf as from what you said, you have a static IP. Input that static Ip for eth0.

Thanks. I will try the startx command.

I did go into linuxconf to setup my dns servers, but was still unable to ping the outside world. :(
