I have a Toshiba Sateillite 1670CDS laptop and before I install a distro on my main computer I'd like to install a few (not at once) to try out on the laptop. But, could it be damaging (like to hardware or not fixeable by the install cd?
Thank you

You mean could installing linux hurt your computer? No more than installing windows could. With some video cards, I've heard that autoprobing can be dangerous, but I've never actually heard of a case where it happened.

So if I avoid autoprobing I'll be ok?

Take care of the refresh rate and resolution of your monitor, check your settings first.

On a Notebook, make sure you choose LCD panel for your monitor, LCD panels are limited to 60hz refresh and typically are hardware set to a specific resolution. They can do other resolutions, but they look like crap.
