Hello everyone, on most Linux systems you have built-in system account, such as: mail, ftp, nobody, and other "system account". My question is that if you try to login as one of those system account you are unable to because of incorrect passwords. How do you find out what those passwords are?

The reason I ask is because i'm trying to hack my linux box thru telnet with a system account. I would like to know if this is possible?

I know you cant log in as root vua telnet, and I'd guess its the same for any other system user.

my understanding is that most of the system users don't actually have passwords... look at the passwd (or if your passwd file is shadowed, the shadow file) in the /etc folder, and see that there is no password entered for them...

I do know a friend of mine who managed to telnet in with 'named' and password 'named'. Don't know if it was just his distro, though. *shrug*
