i have a logitech usb optical mouse that is not working in linux-mandrake. the usbview in kde sees it, but there is no movement of the cursor. the control center says there is an irq conflict, but i don`t know how to change it. i'm pretty new at linux, as in i just installed it a few days ago.

i tried the steps on the page, but cat /dev/input/mice doesn't do anything, there is no info being displayed. i maybe should have mentioned this before, but i have an abit kt7-raid mobo, hardrake says the usb devices are not known and i don't know how to install the drivers or where to get them. i hope i'm not sounding like i'm asking for handouts, but i'm just so accustomed to windows that i'm at a loss with linux.

Did you do this:

mkdir /dev/input
mknod /dev/input/mice c 13 63 That creates the usb mice-device.

Did DrakConf or DrakX configured your usb-mouse during install? You may want to try re-running DrakConf or DrakX again.

or

What XFree version are you running: Xfree-3.3.6 or Xfree-4.0.2 ?

It's important to know because you will need to edit the specific XF86Config file with those entries shown in the how-to.

well thanks for your help treatment, but i've decided to give up on linux for awhile. i read in a few other posts on some newsgroups about the same problem i have with no one being able to get it to work. back to windows for me then, maybe i'll get a kde skin for windows blinds though.
