So I've got an apache server all set up with some mods and customizations and whatever else along with things like mySQL and such.

When I get a new kernel and switch over to it, how do I keep all my current stuff going the same? I don't want to have to reinstall everything...

What's the best way to keep all my external programs running without reinstalling?

Kernel updates will not affect any of your application settings in any way (unless you disable some kernel option that they require to run... so don't do that). Just always make sure you keep a copy of your old kernel around so that if your kernel compile doesn't go right, you can go back to the one you know works.
