If I use DHCP to configure my modem, at boot up > Bringing up interface ETH0 I get "ip information via dhcpcd FAILED>
If I use netconf in Mandrake 7.1> I get a netscape error that says "Warning the following hosts are unknown
eastlink.ca
home.netscape.com
home6.netscape.com
internic.net
After 5 days of trying almost everything still no internet. Windows is lookimg good at this time. What can I do.

This may sound like a dumb question but are you certain your ISP is using a DHCP server, and not actually assigning a static IP? Reason I say that is because my ISP (@Home) wanted me to set it up as a DHCP client, but they were really assigning me a static IP. I plugged that into the configuration along with the DNS server addresses and everthing worked fine.

Hope that helps.

I spoke to my isp and they do use a DHCP server.

/etc/resolv.conf

domain yourispdomain
nameserver xx.xx.xx.xx # isp DNS 1
nameserver xx.xx.xx.xx # isp DNS 2

May solve your problem.

I had the same problem Hammer45 - @home told me to set up as DHCP. Didn't work. So, I just put in all my network info myself (IP, NETmask, etc...) as I installed and it worked just fine.

Make sure you have the right module selected for your eth0 card. In root type ifconfig you should see eth0 listed along with lo if not then you probably have the wrong module selected for your eth0 card.

btw could you give us information on the type of ethernet card your using?
