Chat Servers for free use?

Hi folks.

This just goes to show how you can be a guru on some topics and a total newbie on others.

The programmers at my work are all working from home right now. With past telecommuting jobs we had a chat server running with our own section where all the developers would keep in touch with each other.

Are there chat servers out there that will allow you to just set up your own "room" on their server? Or should I work on installing ircd on my own computer?

Well, I don't use IRC myself. i would recomend you grab a copy of like pgplus or something like that (try pgplus.ewtoo.org or just ewtoo.org) and throw it on a box. That way you can possibly limit who has access (Cause then you can just have them telnet to a box of your choice).
