After installing Red Hat 7.0 with the dual boot into the MBR, Windows can no longer locate the CDROM. The primary and secondary IDE controllers also were disabled. This was rectified by reinstalling Windows on the reformated Windows partition, but the Lilo no longer work. Does anyone know my problem?

When you repartitioned your harddrive did you make the linux partition a primary partition or a logical one?

I am not sure if this is what you were asking but, LILO doesn't work b/c Windows rewrote the MBR when you reinstalled it. Windows does not play nice at all!!

You may also want to check you bios to see if you have the option of setting it to a non-PNP OS...
That way linux will like it better and windows will have less options about changing addresses and such...

It sounds like one or both of your ide controllers was disabled when you installed linux... the os thing in the bios should take care of that...

It should be there because if you were to install NT on your machine you would need to change that setting anyway or have mysterious problems... http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif

Thanks people,
I solved it by resetting the CMOS setup so that it doesn't boot the CDROM. I can't explain why but it is working that way. The moment the bios checks the CDROM for boot, win95 no longer sees the CDROM resource. Linux doesn't have this problem. Weird but then...
