I've had this fixed before ...but I can't sort it out now.
The ~ that is appended before your user name causes probs with services that require an ident repsonse ( eg Efnet )
Previous fixes have been just running an mirc client on the win gateway (worked with RH6.1)
and I thought I had the prob solved when I switched to Debian 2.2.
I've reinstalled Debian a few times and now I can't get onto efnet. I think there's a masq option specifically for irc that is available during install that I may not have selected this time..but I'm not sure and don't know how to install whatever it is now.
I've tried pidentd , oidentd and a How to make a bogus ident hack I found but all to no avail.
The Win2000 box hasn't had any changes...so any tips re : getting ident to work in this situation ?
