I recently installed SuSE 7.0 and well I regret to say the new version of x leaves much to be desired.
X has been constantly crashing on my system, by crashing I mean I get a BLACK screen which forces me into a hard boot just so I can get back in Linux.
I was first inclined to think that my problem was due to Xmms becasue X would only
"black out" then, but now I can't even set up my freaking screensaver without getting that black screen and sometimes I get that black screen without even running any applications.
Do you guys now if this is a hardware issue ( use a Diamond Viper TNT2 card) or is it a bug in Xfree 4.0? I noticed that a lot of people seem to be running into the same problem with Red Hat 7 (I run SuSE 7) and while at the xmms site I noticed there were a lot of postings concerning this issue.
Any help you can give will be appreciated.
One more thing, everytime I get that black screen I also get a message that reads "monitor out of range" ?!!
Don't tell me to check my monitor or videocard settings as I have done that many times already.
Thank you all.
Robert
