I just installed Mandrake 7.2 on my system (on a separate partition from Mandrake 7.0) and for some strange reason, I am required to push the power button to turn the computer off. This is not a problem with 7.0 . when I halt the PC (7.2) I get the usuall shutdown routine, [sending all processes the TERM signal etc. system halted. power off.] but the system doesn't power off. what can I do?

Check the power/options in your bios settings.Beyond that, wait for other replies.

I have the same problem since i built kernel 2.4 in 2.2 it worked just fine... found an option that could do it in the kernel options but it didnt.

It's possible that the kernel hasn't had the power management options enabled. A big "D'oh" there for Mandrake!!

Therefore, if it is that, you'll have to recompile the kernel, making sure that Power Management (APM) is enabled.

An interesting side effect. I tried to recompile the kernel and.... make bzimage doesn't work. something about not having any rule for it. I know I should have wrote down the error, shoot me.

I have the same problem with RH7, with 6.2 it used to turn the power off, now it just stops at halted and I need to manually shut down.

Strange, MDK 7.2 will power off for me, but Win2k I need to hit the power button. The only two things I can think of for your problem is recompiling the kernel and check you powermanagement options in your bios.
