Hello. . . I am new to the Linux world as well as many of you are. I have been playing with the Live eval of SuSE 7.2 and I absolutely love it. I have just ordered the personal version from SuSE. I would like to totally run Linux and scrap Windows altogether but I have a few programs and games that I have to use. I know that many people have run windows programs under linux using an emulator. I wanted to find out what emulator is the best out there for stability, speed and ease of use. Thanks!

You should be able to view compatibility reports and success stories at http://winehq.com/. I number of programs you'll be able to run with WINE depends on your level of eliteness. Without tinkering, WINE can run a fair number of Windows programs at a usable level, but 1337 people can get it to run a surprising amount of stuff.

It looks like the WINE compatibility reports have been moved here:

WINE will still never make Windows binaries look native, though. I personally don't use WINE for anything. I think it's much better to hunt down a native Linux alternative to your Windows program, and if no alternative TRULY exists (often, it does, but they can be hard to find), that's what Windows machines are for. :) People don't need specific applications, they need applications that perform the specific tasks they want to accomplish. It's better to search for a native program that accomplishes those tasks than to try to make a specific application work under WINE.

Also check out Win4Lin and VMware.

They can run them ALL.
