I am going to be building a server that will run sendmail and Apache and I was looking into the CPUs at this time. I want a cheap CPU and I have found a Duron 700 and board for $100. Do the Durons have any specific issues with Linux? If I don't get a Duron, it will probably be a Celeron. Any suggestions on that one?

thats sounds good. any pc with a decent enough of a system can handle linux. You dont need a top of the line machine to use simple things like that

You can run apache on a P233 if you wanted to. A duron 700 is more than up for the task.

I "think" I have this planned out.

ECS K7VZA V.1 Board
Duron 700 CPU
ZMIDATX - 218B ATX MID w/250W PS
Seagate 5GB HD SCSI w/controller card
Generic floppy
Old 40X CDROM
3COM NIC
256MB RAM

Any input?

that should be fine...unless you are planning on get 10 million hits a minute or having e-mail accounts for 300,000 people. (that's exaggerating...it would get bogged down with alot less traffic than this).

is this a low-traffic web-site/ semi-private e-mail?

This server is going to be a webserver that is probably going to get only a few hits a day. I am going to put my mail and all of my friend's mail on the sendmail which is probably about 10 boxes. I know that it is probably overkill, but I don't have the patience to deal with a slow system.

I guess I could go down to a 500 possibly, but I was looking on Pricewatch and the slowest CPU that they had was a 600.
