When I boot up on my laptop after installing Mandrake 8.2 it constantly uses sawfish, while I have requested to boot up in either gnome or kde. And I am unable to change it thru the Mandrake control center. Can anybody tell me in what config file this is arranged?
Does anybody know if mandrake is the only distribution with supermount on the cdromdrive?
I am trying to install the new acrobat 5.5, after unpacking it shows me a INSTALL scriptfile, but how do I run that?
Thanx for all.
(mandrake 8.2 gnome kde celeron600 320mb)

1. Config file for X bootup is ~/.xinitrc (where ~ is your home directory)
2. I've only heard of Mandrake using it by default, although you should be able to install in on any distro if you want. It's possible that other Windows-like distros use it (Redmond/Lycoris, ELX, etc)
3. Go to the directory and type ./INSTALL (assuming that it's a script, and not a text file telling you how to install ;) )

Wow that was quick,
Install problem continued...
When I run ./INSTALL it says:
ERROR: No configurations found.....aborting.
it is not a readme file when I open it in a editor.
Thanx

Hmm. Something is obviously missing :(
You did download the full version, and not just an upgrade version?
Not really sure, to be honest

Tucows full version I believe. It unpacked into binaries in subdirectories and this INSTALL file.

.xinitrc cannot find this file in either home directory, I can find xinitrc in /etc/X11, but it starts the first time startup script where you can choose a desktop. I still cannot find a parameter where it says to boot a desktop.

Mandrake does a few funny things with bootup. Normally, when you typ startx from a console, it checks for ~/.xinitrc, and if it's not there it uses /etc/X11/.xinitrc
The lines which start a WM are usually right at the bottom.
However.
What confuses this mix, is KDM, which is the login manager that Mandrake uses (IIRC), but that should configure OK from the KDE control center thingy.
Usually there is a drop-down for you to choose the desktop from within KDM.
