I had to do a total reinstall of my SuSE 7.3. And I went to update the system like I have before, but the NVIDIA_GLX-2 and NVIDIA_Kernel-3 drivers will not download from any of the SuSE update sites. Also when I try to go to Nvidia.com, I get an error that it cannot be resolved! I can't seem to locate the updated NVIDIA drivers for my 3D card. Which means that I do not have 3D capability even though I enabled it during install! So where can I get the latest drivers in .rpm format, I do not want to screw around with manual compilation. I would rather the installer do it for me. I have been all over the net and all I find are small scripts that do not a damn thing.

Thank you in advance.

Well, just want to tell my experience with NVidia. I tried the rpm and it didn't work. The tarball works well with me. I can play tuxracer now.

Perhaps they were in the process of adjusting the site for the posting of the new drivers today. Try again. I downaloded the new 2802 to night without issue.

Why not just d/l the nvidia tarballs? nvidia.com only has RedHat, Mandrake and Source. It's really easy to compile and install them. It takes seconds! I've done it about 20 times now. All you do it unpack them and make && make install. Then you just make sure the glx module is uncommented in your XF86Config-4 file and that the driver is set to nvidia not nv. Just as easy at the rpm's

No, this is easier:

rpm -Uvh NVI (Press tab to complete file name then press ENTER)
Do that for both the .rpms then reboot. Done. No config files no ./configure make & & make install & & make clean.

Do you have a DNS problem, or an ISP problem, by any chance? All the drivers are available via an Online Update - there must be a reason why you can't access them.

Ohhh... new video card drivers

...MkIII_Supra: I should slap you around a bit with a trout for your laziness. (I cant find the trout-slap smiley) Compiling from source has to be the easiest to do. You dont need to ./configure, and you dont need to reboot either. You might think its easy now, but just remember how much rpm's suck.

Hey, in the time it took me to write this reply, I've made and installed both the kernel and GLX module. Now I'm just going to finish this post and retstart X. It takes all of 10 seconds.

You do have to reboot because one of the drivers is kernel level... and for it to work ie. kernel upgrade / modification you need to reboot. Every time I have installed the Nvidia drivers I have been told to reboot by the install script from Yast2 update utility, which uses .rpm format to obtain and install the drivers.

NVIDIA_GLX-2 - Driver, no reboot required...
NVIDIA_Kernel-3 Driver / Instruction for hardware... reboot required...

As far as a DNS issue, I doubt it because all the other updates I have acquired using the Yast2 update utility have been downloaded and installed without a hitch, including the KDE updates.

Oh and then there is the issue of actually finding a site with the drivers in any format... seems that when I Google for them either the site will not open or what the site has is nothing more than a text file. So again I am stuck without any drivers at all and I can't figure out why.

I had problems with nVidia and had to use the following parm at boot time in LILO

disableapic

If you boot in "safe" mode, this parm is already coded.

Try this after you get the rpm's installed.
