I have and imbedded system that I have built from scratch..... It has no CD Rom.... has a floppy and a HDD from a laptop.... Everything works and is functional! I am not a Linux pro. I would like to be.... but I am not! So I need to copy the source files from the CD Rom on another computer to the laptop hard drive.... take the hard drive out and put it into the imbedded system and install Linux from the hard drive after booting from the floppy..... of course!
I do not know how to copy the files to the HDD or install from a HDD.... I have never done this before... and frankly.... I am in a hole.....

Any help on this matter? Please! I am in a time constrant! Thanks

For Linux-Mandrake (http://www.linux-mandrake.com) check out http://carroll.cac.psu.edu/pub/linux/distributions/mandrake/7.2/i586/install.htm#other

it contains detailed instructions for a variety of installation procedures.

Good Luck.

To copy over to the HDD, you will need the HDD attached in some fashion to another computer. You will need either a converter to hook up the hard drive to a Desktop, or put it on a notebook. The last option will be very time comsuming but possible to coppy everything over using floppies. If you go that route I would suggest checking out Slackware. It has a version that comes on floppies. If the computer has some form of internet access it would be possible to do a network installation. You will need to have a formatted partion of course.

Does it have a parallel port? If so, you can create a network install floppy, put that in your embedded system, choose plip (IP over parallel) as the driver and install over the parallel port by connecting it to a PC containing the files (and with 7.2 installed). The PC containing the files has to be running either an FTP server on it or have an NFS shared directory of the 7.2 files. I've done this install on a laptop which had no cd from my PC. Check out the "How-To's" for information on PLIP install... the information is getting old but it still should get you going.
