Well I honestly believe that RedHat has never had a working gcc compiler for me. Every time I try comiling anything, it fails with compiler incompantance errors. I have ran the newest one from the RH7.1 cd and have not yet compiled anything correctly with. I forget the version but I went ahead and grabed an update 3.0-1 src ( and the dep cpp 3.0.1 ) I believe. Well being that my gcc doesn't work; the compiling a NEWER gcc can't happen. When I grab an i386.rpm of it that is no good (all programs complian of no c, c++ capabilites ) SO, for sh1p s sake, and to prevent me taking the 16gigs linux uses and replace it with my dvdriped movies, can someone tell me what version they have for gcc that they have no problems comping MMX or anything else.

Consider that I am starting with a fresh copy of RH7.1 that has gcc-2.96-81.i386.rpm w/deps installed. What version will not crap on me?
I am really beyond frustrated at this point, I am exhusted.

thnx 4 in/out

I've had this same problem. GCC 2.96 is supposedly buggy. I went to the GNU site and downloaded GCC 3.0.1, however I don't seem to have support for C++ compiling either. If you or anybody can figure out a way to add support for it, I'd appreciate it.

well, on the gaming section there is a message about installing the src of 3.0.1 with something like ./configure --enable=c,c++ but the only problem is with a bad compiler how the h3ll can u. mine with 2.95-29, it takes a dump on cross linking files half way through. This better be fixed in the new RH 7.2 release or they will be hearing from me.(I deal with their ccvs depart which is right next to the distro update department).
